Yay!!!! This is my first five for Friday and I am excited to tell you about my random week!

To kick off my spring break last week I took my two oldest girls to work with me and I also brought their Wii. My students had so much fun dancing all day long.

After the students went home, this is what teachers do while waiting for parent conferences LOL. This is one of my good friends. She teaches kindergarten and our rooms are connected by a bathroom. We yell each other's name through the bathroom a lot. I know the kids think we're crazy at times. My oldest decided she was tired of dancing, so she watched at the computer.

During spring break I got to spend some time with my baby girl, who turned 1 on the 16th.

This is how were spent out days on the couch watching TV. Oddly this child is glue to me. She is like my little shadow. My oldest is now 9 and she was the type of baby that just wanted to do things on her own. My middle one is 6 and she it the biggest daddy's girl. As a baby, she was his shadow and would hate for my to even hug him LOL. I have really enjoyed this time with my little one this week.

I'm happy I was finally able to get my hair done this week. When I get back to school on Monday, my students are going to be surprised at how much my hair has grown this week LOL. They have not seen me with long hair since the beginning of the school year, and others that are new have never seen me with it. I am ready for all the questions about how did I get my hair to grow so much over spring break.

I love my new hair (sew in). The weather is starting to get warm, so now it is time for a change.

I saw this quote on instagram and loved it.

This is exactly how I feel about my job. I do not see what I do as work, I see it as a passion.

Lastly number five. I have started on some earth day activities

This is a work in progress and I hope to be finished with it today. I will also be giving away two free copies of this to a lucky blog follower and a Facebook follower. Keep a look out!!!

First I want to say congratulation to the winner of my first giveaway!

Winner is...

I hope you enjoy your teachers pay teachers gift certificate.

Now I want to talk about my guided reading block. My whole reading block is two hours. I start my lesson with a read aloud and then we talk about and go over the reading skill we are focusing on. We just finished compare and contrast. This takes about 30 minutes. Next my students break up and complete centers. Their center choices are the same, but the activity is different each week.

Centers:

Phonics (spelling)
Grammar
Listening Center
Read to Self
Read to someone (assigned partner)
Writing

While my student are working, I am meeting with my guided reading groups.

This is the schedule I follow. I try to meet with all my groups everyday. My high group I only meet with on Mondays. I give them their assignment and book for the week and they are pretty self sufficient. I do call them to the table on Wednesday to check on them and answer questions.

Day 1: I introduce the book and give the students a RTFO (read to find out). Everyone reads the book at the same time softly to themselves. I go around the table listening to them read. I help and correct mistakes and I also write down something the student did while reading (a good point). Once I have listened to every one read (this usually take about 5 minutes) I validate my students. I say something good about the reading and then as a group we discuss the RTFO.

Day 2: I choose two students to do a running record. I usually only call them to the table and the rest of the group is still doing centers. I analyze the running records later that day. During Day 2 we do word work and writing. Depending on what group I am working with determines the word work. My lower group focuses on sight words and my middle group their word work involves the book we read.

(sorry the picture is upside down)

Here is a word work lesson for my lower group. We talked about the word when. I have letter lined on top and the bottom and three circles in the middle. I spell the word first using the letters at the top and put them in the first circle. The students help me spell the word. Then I put the board in front of a student and they spell the same word using the letters at the bottom and then the next student does the same.

Next thing we do is an interactive writing.

First we write a sentence together. We write the sentence below the line. If a student does not know how to spell a word they write the word above the line and we look at it together. Each student writes one word in the sentence. If a student writes a word above the line the teacher looks at the word and them under writes it, validating the point in the word the student got correct. Then the student writes the word in the sentence.

Student then writes a sentence on their own and reads it to the group.

Focus: went
Writing: We went to the ....

Overall the time for each group is about 10 minutes.

If you have any questions let me know.
